About
The first version of the double decker bus appeared in 1855 as a horse-drawn carriage with seats on the roof. The first motorized double decker was introduced in 1909 and carried 34 passengers in all. The first mass-produced diesel buses, known as the STL series, rolled off the assembly line in 1932. Since then, they have become a symbol of London and essentially, of Great Britain itself.
Recently, however, as a result of the average of three deaths a year, the safety of the transportation has been called into question and, by 2005, the streets of London will pull many of the buses, leaving the rest for tours.
